چکیده

In this paper, we propose an AIMD-based TCP load balancing architecture in a backbone network where TCP flows are split between two explicitly routed paths, namely the primary and the secondary paths. We propose that primary paths have strict priority over the secondary paths with respect to packet forwarding and both paths are rate-controlled using ECN marking in the core and AIMD rate adjustment at the ingress nodes. We call this technique “prioritized AIMD”. The buffers maintained at the ingress nodes for the two alternative paths help us predict the delay difference between the two paths which forms the basis for deciding on which path to forward a new-coming flow. We provide a simulation study for a large mesh network to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach in terms of the average blocking rate and the average per-flow goodput.

AIMD-based online MPLS traffic engineering for TCP flows via distributed multi-path routing

In this paper, we propose a distributed online traffic engineering architecture for MPLS networks. In this architecture, a primary and secondary MPLS LSP are established from an ingress LSR to every other egress LSR. We propose to split the aggregate TCP traffic between the primary and secondary paths using a distributed mechanism based on ECN marking and AIMD-based rate control. Inspired by th...

For Peer Review TCP FLOW AWARE ADAPTIVE PATH SWITCHING

We propose an adaptive flow-level multipath routing-based traffic engineering solution for an IP backbone network carrying TCP/IP traffic. Incoming TCP flows are switched between two explicitly routed paths, namely the primary and secondary paths, for resilience and potential goodput improvement at the TCP layer. In the proposed architecture, primary paths receive a preferential treatment over ...

Fairness of the Tcp-based New Aimd Congestion Control Algorithm

Congestion control is one of the fundamental issues in computer networks. In transport control protocol (TCP) the performance of protocol is being measured based on fairness and efficiency. The fairness on round trip time (RTT) can be measured using the algorithm based on two flows or more than that. Congestion control is an effort to adapt the performance of a network to changes in the traffic...

For models based on balanced fairness, the performance can efficiently be computed for networks of realistic size. In addition, these models lead to robust performance measures that are completely independent of detailed traffic characteristics, which is a very desirable fea...

Internet Traffic Distribution over Multilink Where High Bandwidth Scalable Switch Port Aggregates Multiple Physical Links

A logical link composed of multiple physical links is in extensive use in today’s Internet and its use is growing due to good scalability, reliability and cost-effectiveness. When IP packets are distributed over such physical links, load unbalancing and packet reordering may occur. Since packet reordering degrades TCP performance, a good traffic distribution method must reduce the amount of reo...
